Deana and Julia are two slightly unusual, creative thinking, solution focused women who have discovered a passion for making a difference and doing it for the right reasons. We didn’t get to this position without having had some great life skills and experiences beforehand. Not wanting to bore you, here is some things you might be interested in knowing about us.
We bring lots of skills and experience to The Hero Project CIC including:
- 23 years managing charities
- 30 years of community engagement and consultation
- successful small-scale fundraising events and activities
- writing successful national & area specific funding applications
- delivering innovative workshops and training
- effective project management against agreed outcomes
Deana is known locally for her involvement in the successful development of the Sir John Moore Foundation, Appleby Magna this building has been lovingly brought back into community use, by the community and through local partnerships. Deana lives in Ashby, with her family including two cats and three chickens, is an artist and avid gardener, amongst other things!
Julia managed Castle Donington Volunteer Centre a busy volunteer community transport organisation that provides transport solutions for rural communities and those unable to use public transport. Julia has a background in social housing, community involvement and has supported many VCSE groups over the years. Julia lives in Derby with her family and three dogs, two that compete in dog shows across the country.
Richard joined the team in April 2017 as Company Secretary, former criminal defence barrister at a London Chambers, returned to the Midlands and moved to the employed bar with a local privately-owned property company. Also experienced in specialist education as a teacher within the prison system and at schools for students with emotional and behavioural disorders. Here to scrutinise, to challenge and to support.
Ian joined the team in September 2017 and brings his expertise into the team. A co-operative practitioner who is passionate about employee and community owned businesses, working alongside them to change and grow, to be able to achieve their goals in a changing world. A calm, flexible and thoughtful approach allows me to understand the needs of clients. Will always start from the people involved and work out how best to work alongside them to achieve their goals. I will only work with an enterprise if I believe I can make a positive difference. If I can help I will, if I cannot I will try and find someone who can.
Specialities: Enjoy strategy, helping people step back and think through where they want to go and what they want to achieve. Community shares and employee ownership. Working with co-operative & social enterprises to plan for growth, successful change; coaching and advising boards and decision makers.
